Happy Fall: A Queer Stunt Spectacular


Happy Fall: A Queer Stunt Spectacular is an original highly interactive theatrical experience about a queer closeted stuntman’s journey to discover himself in a world of faux masculinity, unmasking the importance and danger of being true to oneself. HAPPY FALL is based on true-life stories and direct testimonies, and illuminates issues of racial and cultural identity in Hollywood.

ROLES


THE HOSTMid-30s to late 50s. BIPOC. Gregarious and jovial, with the ability to shift from frivolity to razor-sharp danger in an instant. A HUGE personality with more than a little sass – equal parts philosopher, poet, comedian, clown, and disruptor. An inviting and engaging storyteller, The Host is the audience’s guide on this wild and crazy ride. TRANSGENDER, GENDER NON-CONFORMING, AND LGBTQ+ PERFORMERS ENCOURAGED. LEAD.

CLAYMale. 40s. White. Tall, muscular, strong, and well-built. A successful stuntman, he leads with bravado and machismo, keeping his queerness hidden and his vulnerability buried. Excellent mover. EXPERIENCE IN STAGE COMBAT OR STUNTS. LGBTQ+ PERFORMERS ENCOURAGED. LEAD. Intimacy notes: this character role involves kissing. There is suggested postcoital intimate cuddling with the character of FELIX. CLAY will also be portraying a suggested power dynamic in this relationship as the more dominant partner - an intimacy director will be in rehearsals to help stage intimate choreography, and help navigate boundaries surrounding acceptable touch amongst all parties.

STUNT ENSEMBLE #1 Male or female. BIPOC. Will play multiple roles and puppeteer characters. Excellent mover. EXPERIENCE WITH STUNTS OR FIGHTING, STAGE COMBAT OR STUNTS. Beneficial skills include: high fall experience, sword choreography experience, hand to hand/martial experience, wrecking/tricking experience. PUPPETRY OR PHYSICAL THEATER EXPERIENCE A PLUS. Intimacy notes: The stunt ensemble will potentially be portraying intimate moments with each other that may involve kissing and cuddling in various moments throughout the show to support the main plot - an intimacy director will be in rehearsals to help stage intimate choreography, and help navigate boundaries surrounding acceptable touch amongst all parties.

THIS TRACK WILL ALSO UNDERSTUDY THE ROLE OF CLAY. Assistant Stage Manager


JOB TITLE: Assistant Stage Manager
REPORTS TO: Production Stage Manager, Production Manager
JOB TYPE: Hourly

GENERAL JOB Description:
The Assistant Stage Manager oversees the technical, rehearsal and stage management details as assigned by the Production and Stage Manager in support of the Los Angeles premiere of Happy Fall: A Queer Stunt Spectacular.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist Stage Manager in the creation of forms, lists, run orders, etc.
• Assist Stage Manager and Director in all rehearsal needs.
• During rehearsal: perform daily setup and cleaning, track props and scenery.
• During performance: perform daily setup and cleaning, assist in the maintenance of stage presets, assist in scenic changes and provide clear communication between the calling SM/ PA and the crew.
• Maintain a safe and clean workspace including rehearsal spaces, backstage area, etc.
• Maintain smooth, calm operation of productions during tech rehearsals and performances.
• Attend production meetings as needed.
• Work in a safe, efficient, and organized manner.
• Any other tasks as requested by the Stage Manager or the Production Manager.


QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in theatrical run crew or stage management.
• Ideal candidate will possess or is in the final stage year of a bachelor’s degree in Technical Theatre or equivalent professional experience.
• Ability to remain calm and organized during high-stress situations.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Positive attitude and the ability to work collaboratively with a team.. SCHEDULE:
  • Rehearsal Dates: July 9 – Aug 8, 2024 (at LGBT Center) Tuesday - Friday afternoons, Saturday 10am - 7pm
  • Tech Begins: Saturday August 3rd, 2024
  • Previews: August 10 – 16, 2024
  • Performance Dates: Aug 17 – Sept 8, 2024 (Thurs- Sun)

Sound Mixer


JOB TITLE: Sound Mixer
REPORTS TO: Production Manager
JOB TYPE: Hourly

GENERAL JOB Description:
The SOUND MIXER works with the Sound Designer to balance levels of microphones during performances, to ensure that the correct mix is maintained. The Sound Mixer will also be responsible for cueing live SFX playback for stunt sequences to be timed with the action on stage, assisting in ensuring artists wear their microphones correctly and that all equipment is cared for.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Operates both a Yamaha and Allen-Heath AH-SQ-5 mixing console, adjusting audio levels during performances.
  • Controls playback of live sound effects for action sequences (punches/kicks) to create a live foley effect.
  • Assists Sound Designer during tech in tweaking the audio design.
  • Assists with helping actors to properly put on microphones for each performance.
  • Cares for equipment making sure any needed repairs are reported to the Production Manager in a timely manner.
  • Performs other sound-related duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
  • Must have a good understanding of basic mixing and wireless microphones.   
  • Experience with Sound Design is recommended.
  • Working knowledge of all aspects of the theatre – production and technical, as well as performance. Ability to quickly and efficiently problem-solve theatrical audio equipment.
  • Knowledge and experience with Allen-Heath AH-SQ-5, Yamaha CL series consoles, Dante network protocols, Qlab, VectorWorks, Clear-Com systems, and Shure wireless microphones.

Board Op


JOB TITLE: Board Op
REPORTS TO: Production Manager and Stage Manager
JOB TYPE: Hourly

GENERAL JOB Description:
The Board Op will work with the production team to facilitate the playback of cues during tech and performances. The Board Op will oversee lighting and video systems and playback will be synced, taking cues from the Stage Manager.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Operating the lighting console under the supervision of the Lighting, and/or Technical Director
  • Responsible for powering up both lighting and video systems.
  • Following instructions from the Stage Manager to execute sound cues during tech rehearsals and performances. 
  • Performing a lighting channel check and video check before each performance and fixing any problems encountered, with the help of the Technical Director. 
  • Powering down equipment after use as directed by the TD. 
  • During the strike, sorting and packing rental equipment for return, coiling cables, striking speakers and other tasks as assigned by the Technical Director.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
  • At least 2 years of experience in the theater.
  • Knowledge of lighting console programming.
  • Basic understanding of video playback systems.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices to reduce the risk of injury to you and those around you.
  • Knowledge of basic theatrical lighting systems and how to troubleshoot and repair those systems.
  • Knowledge of basic theatrical sound systems and how to troubleshoot and repair those systems.
  • Ability to foster positive relationships and to collaborate with many different groups of people.

PAY RATE: $18.00





Development Coordinator


The Development Coordinator for Rogue Artists Ensemble will work with Staff and Board members to support donation tracking, individual donor cultivation and fundraising priorities with an emphasis on meaningful community engagement.
